Biochem/physiol Actions Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside.
Mode of Action: Binds to 70S ribosomal subunit; inhibits translocation; elicits miscoding.
Spectrum of Activity: Gram negative bacteria. Not effective against Enterococci.

"This antibiotic is very soluble in water. We have been using it to do experiments with an aptamer that binds aminoglycosides. It works quite well for that purpose."
